Make Space for the Work

This winter, I have been offered the opportunity to spend three months at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts in Maine as the first recipient of the first ever Dawnland Clay Fellowship Award.

This fellowship is especially meaningful to me because it offers an opportunity to bring together my ceramic practice, my family history, and my ongoing research into my Abenaki ancestry.

During my time at Watershed, I hope to deepen my understanding of my Abenaki family, learn more about the histories and connections that have shaped my lineage, and explore how this research can inform my work with clay. I am interested in the relationships between land, memory, plants, and the stories that are carried across generations. I want to make space for these questions through research, observation, and experimentation in the studio.

As a ceramic artist, I have spent years building my practice through making, teaching, and sharing my work with others. This residency offers something that has always been difficult to find for me, a dedicated time and space to slow down, learn, ask questions, and develop new work in a place where clay and community are at the center.

Receiving the Dawnland Clay Fellowship is an honor, and I want to make the most of this opportunity. Financial support will help make it possible for me to spend these three months at Watershed, covering travel, living expenses, and time away from paid work so I can fully participate in the residency.

In addition to website contributions, Venmo, Cash App, and Zelle are all available and meaningful ways to give. Message me at the bottom of the page for links.
